The team at the oldest local in Dronfield, The Blue Stoops, have been busy making changes since reopening post lockdown. The small-town pub with a restaurant, which is part of True North Brew Co and resides on Dronfield high street, has been recently undergoing a period of positive transformations amidst the chaotic and ever-changing circumstances due to Covid-19. Much of the transformation is thanks to the new Head Chef, Mike. Mike has had an impressive career so far and of his seventeen years’ experience, has spent just over two at True North. Mike is excited to be bringing some fresh ideas and fresh ingredients to The Blue Stoops. We asked Mike to chat about the brand-new Autumn menu and his plans for the future of The Stoops.

“For me, the menu represents where the place is going. I always use as many natural ingredients as possible, and I wanted to keep it very British and ‘very pub’. It’s taking something traditional and adapting it to make it a pub dish”, Mike said. “I personally think dishes like the Seabass also represent how British food has changed. It has so many different aspects, like spices from India that we now think of as traditionally British spices– it shows how we now take influence from around the globe.”

In addition to the main menu, The Blue Stoops team are looking forward to customers tasting their weekly specials menus, which are created in-house by Mike and Sous Chef Alex. Mike said: “With the specials, it has to be seasonal. The Autumn menu is seasonal for those few months, but this is an ever-changing thing, taking it down to what is available week by week. There are certain things we can source for one week only, so we want to make the most of it.”


Both the main menu and weekly specials menus have plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans and those with other dietary requirements. The Blue Stoops prides itself on being a place where everyone can enjoy good food, without the worry of if there will be anything suitable.

The kitchen team are also excited about their plans for the near future. “We’re already planning ahead for the festive menu and we also have loads of other events ready for when it’s safe to do so.”


The team front of house, lead by Caelan and David, are looking forward to welcoming customers, old and new, to try the Autumn menu and providing safe service in our new normal.
